FORT LAUDERDALE – The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams will head just south of Ft. Lauderdale for their first tri-meet of the season. The women will take on Florida International and Indian River's women's teams, while the men will face off again against IRSC in consecutive weeks.
The FIU women's team has already competed against four teams this year and are currently 3-1 on the season. The Panthers fell to Miami to start the year, but had a solid outing picking up three wins over Tulane, Rice and University of Denver at the Dual-A-Palooza just last week. This will be their first home meet of the season.
Indian River will be competing in just their second meet of the year with their men and women falling to the Sharks just last week. The men won 163-99, while the women picked up a 174-88 dominating victory. Out of 28 events scheduled in last week's meet in Ft. Pierce, NSU won 26 of them, while posting five provisional qualifying times in the process.
Standing out on the men's side, Fraco Lupoli has already set three provisional qualifying times in the 1,650, 1,000 and 500-yard freestyle events.
Thiago Sickert continues to dominate in the butterfly and middle free events, while newcomer
Till Barthel has taken charge in the freestyle sprints.
Emma Wahlstrom has been a consistent performer for the NSU women thus far by already setting provisional qualifying times in four separate events.
Courtney DeVeny continues to excel in the individual medley events and
Malin Westman has led picked up solid finishes in the breaststroke events.
The tri-meet will begin at 5 p.m. and will be hosted at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center and will feature 14 events, beginning with the 200 medley relay. Admission is free to the public.
